Every municipality in Rogaland has at least one easy-to-visit day-trip cabin. The cabins are primarily intended as everyday excursion destinations for the local population, but are of course also open to tourists. NB: It is not allowed to stay overnight in the cabins, they are designed for daytime use only.

Take the whole family out!

It is important that the cabins are easily accessible to as many people as possible, as they are primarily intended to be everyday destinations. The cabins are universally designed, but the degree of access to the cabins varies depending on where they are located by the municipalities. From a climate and environmental perspective, it is also important that they can be easily reached on foot, by bicycle or by public transport. When locating the cabins, biodiversity and cultural heritage in the area have been assessed and taken into account.

Library

In addition to being a hiking destination in itself, a library in the cabin helps to provide a hiking experience beyond the ordinary. The hiking library is a collaboration between Rogaland County Library and each municipality's respective public library.

Common cabin design with smart solutions

Designed by Rojo Architects, the cabins have a common design and are 15 square metres inside, with a simple layout with one door and windows. The cabins come with a wood-burning stove and solar panels for lighting under the eaves and at the entrance. They have burnt cladding and aluminium-clad windows, so the cabins are fairly maintenance-free.

Great success in Rogaland

The day trip cabin project started in the former Sogn- og Fjordane County Council with the aim of creating a social meeting place and getting more people out and about in their local neighbourhood. It has also been a great success in Rogaland, where all municipalities have each received their day-trip cabin in 2022, some of them even two.
