Join us on a fascinating journey through time and get a unique insight into people's lives through different eras.

The Iron Age farm at Ullandhaug is a reconstructed farmstead built on the original Iron Age sites at Ullandhaug near the University of Stavanger. Here you get an authentic experience of the Migration Period. Step back in time and get a vivid insight into everyday life over 1500 years ago. Meet the housewife, the farmer, the skald (Norse poet) and several other living storytellers, and hear their stories about life in the Iron Age. Experience how the land was cultivated, learn about textile production and explore how the houses were built. This is a unique chance to experience the ways of the past up close.

At the farm, you can also relax in the café, enjoying a tasty cup of coffee, tempting cakes, sandwiches and sourdough pizza. It's the perfect way to digest your impressions during your visit.

When the Archaeological Museum reopens in 2024, a world of discovery awaits. Explore exhibitions that reveal skeletons and selected finds from the past. Among them is the golden find of the century, an extraordinary polar bear skeleton, excavated from a cellar on an island outside Stavanger. This rare find has turned out to be a hybrid between a polar bear and a brown bear and gives us an insight into how the animals have coped with a changing climate. You'll also meet the Viste boy, the skeleton of a 14-year-old boy who lived 8,200 years ago.

You can also be impressed by the beautiful jewellery made by skilled goldsmiths from the Viking Age. Artefacts from a wide range of excavations carry stories and mysteries waiting to be explored. Don't miss the exciting guided tours that will give you a deeper understanding of our rich heritage.

Visit the Iron Age farm at Ullandhaug and the Archaeological Museum and let yourself be enchanted by the treasures and stories of the past. Explore our heritage, enrich your knowledge and experience Norway's rich cultural history up close. Welcome to an exciting journey through time and space!
