#STEP BACK. Are you looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life? Do you find peace within yourself, with yourself, with nature? We give you tips on places in the Stavanger region where you can find peace.

If there's one thing we have in Norway, it's space! In our vast region, we have enough space to enjoy the silence and hear our thoughts. Where we can be completely alone with nature, interrupted only by waves crashing on a beach, birds chirping and a trickling stream in the woods or the raw roar of a waterfall. Here, we live in the moment, we live minute by minute as we breathe in the clean, fresh air.

Can you hear it? The silence?

    Hike from Bø to Knott

    Stavanger

This hike is a gem! Bright green hills for the most part of the year, with staggering magnificent cliffs towards the Mastrafjord below, and with a soft waving pastoral and coastal heaths inland.   The roundtrip starts from the farm Bø. After a couple of hundred metres the path divides into two, and you have a choice of walking the lower path below the steep cliffs to Hesthammar; a settlement from the Migration period with ruins of houses, stone houses, fences, clearance cairns, mounds and fields reiner up the mountain. You can also choose to go over the green pastoral path, towards Torsbakkene and over the hills to Niben (104 meters above sea level) and Knott (110 meters above sea level).

Hidden natural gems

Lesser-known

Mountain hikes

  • Svartaknuten

    Mountain hikes and walks

    Svartaknuten

    Magma UNESCO Global Geopark

It takes an hour from Storrsheia and up to the top. Hint: bring binoculars. Fantastic views from the top!

  • Varden på Storaberget

    Mountain hikes and walks

    Storaberget

    Sandnes

Those who choose to go on the trip to Storaberget will see both older and newer cultural monuments along the way. Well up at the top, a magnificent view opens up in all directions. In good weather, you can see not only Riskalandet and the lakes Lutsivassdraget, but also far out to the sea and the Ryfylkeheiene moors. Storaberget offers challenges and experiences for both large and small hikers.

  • Mountain hikes and walks

    Mjåvassknuten in the Ørsdalen valley

    Magma UNESCO Global Geopark

Mjåvassknuten is not just an adventurous summit tour, it is also a journey through industry and ancient local culture. A large mining activity took place here, where both tungsten and molybdenum ores were extracted. There are still traces of this to this day. A wonderful, however, demanding trip.

Activities that require

Peace and quiet

When should you go

If it's tranquillity and time for reflection that you're looking for on your holiday, then it's a good idea to plan your trip accordingly. For example, you can come here outside the main season; spring, autumn and winter are great times to come. However, if you only have the opportunity to travel during the summer season, you can choose to go on sunrise hikes to the most famous icons, such as Pulpit Rock. You'll get a lot out of the trip. It is recommended that you take the sunrise tours with a nature guide.
